Tim was born in Berlin in March, 1971. An adventurous free spirit, he was raised in India from a young age and exposed early in life to the spiritual and philosophical traditions that are so much a part of life on the Indian sub-continent. Naturally influenced by these experiences, he developed an interest in various meditation and breathing techniques. Diving into the sea's silence on one long breath is his current meditation.
In 1983 he moved with his parents from India to Ibiza.
Tim has always enjoyed physical activity in a natural environment and Ibiza's pristine landscape provided him with a limitless playground to explore and discover. During the spring, summer and autumn months the sea became his favourite haunt. By his mid teens Tim was embarking on three hour solo swims along Ibiza's coastline for extended periods of time and began to experiment with breath
control and freediving.
Tim used a mountain bike to sometimes cycle fourty kilometres there and back to keep his motor running. When the wind picked up it was time to windsurf. By now
you have got the picture. Tim is a human dynamo.
Times changed and so did Tim. By the age of 18 he felt the urge to hit the road, in this case the runway. It was time to expand his horizons. Looking down from a jumbo jet's portal the could see 12- lane freeways stretching off into candy-coloured smog. Wow! Los Angeles, California, definitely looked bigger than Ibiza. Tim decided
lto ived by the sea where the air was breathable and more safe to continue his active life style, of running, cycling, hiking and swimming.
During the thirteen years that Tim was to spend living in Venice Beach, and working in a Downtown LA corporate law firm, his sporting activities went from strength to strength. Kayaking, cross-county running, daily beach jogging, long bike rides, Arizona Desert survival solo retreats, Ashtanga Yoga with Brian Kest, free-form dance expression with Jo Cobbet, mountain trekking...you name it, he was into it.
100%. He was having a blast! Check this out: Tim spontaneously signed up for a race, where pairs of runners ran up the stairwell of the First Interstate Tower. At 74 stories it’s the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. Tim came in fifth out of over 200 competitors, by running up 74 flights of stairs in just under 5 minutes. Think about that next time you get out of breath, because a hotel elevator just broke down.
It was during this period in LA that Tim began to train as a massage therapist. His instructors and teachers were amongst the best in the world. A few years down the line, he jumped out of corporate law and into developing his career as a professional masseur. Tim went on to open his own massage business, whose clients included a list of Hollywood celebrities, but not President Ronald Reagan.
Business was booming but there was a ringing in Tim's ear that was Ibiza beckoning him to return to Magic Island.
Once more in Ibiza, Tim met Natasha Collis, and together they moved to London for a couple years and had a boy named Kianu. Tim spent eleven years living the family life until 2015. Sunday Times had just described Tim as the Rembrandt of the massage world. But it was soon back to Ibiza.
In May 2013, he came across a freediving stage on offer in Ibiza by world-renowned freediver, Umberto Pelizzari. Umberto is six-time world champion and the holder of 16 world records. Tim attended the course and, as a result realized that he had been diving the wrong way up to that point in his life.
Mid-summer that year, he attended Miguel Lozano's freediving course. Miguel is Spain’s national champion.
In September 2013 Umberto Pelizzari returned with his team of professional freedivers, so Tim attended his second freediving stage with Umberto and in 2014 his third stage. As a consequence his freediving experience developed steadily from this point on.Umberto is a veritable fish in the water and to this day the man remains a source of inspiration for Tim.
It has dawned on Tim that freediving is the perfect blend of all the life interests he feels passionate about. He wants to share something beautiful that he has found and it is that desire that has prompted him to guide people to the best underwater locations on Ibiza.
He holds a PADI Advanced Level Open Water Scuba licence. His free-dive level is Level 3 AIDA, with 35 meters descent and a static breath hold time of 4:50 minutes.
The will to excel and be adventurous in the water is difficult to quantify. So let's just say that Tim has a good amount of those qualities and looks forward to guiding you safely to Ibiza's hidden coves and special freedive spots.
Finally, he would like to thank Jessica Dunlop, founder of Ibiza Freedivers, for her work on the island, which has been a great source of inspiration for him.
NOW LET'S DIVE IN TOGETHER...
